A spotless, flawless complexion is lying just beneath the surface of your skin—and a classic treatment is the fastest way there. Popular since the 90's, blends of several of fruity acid “lunch-time” glycolic-based peels are a safe and effective way to slough away dead, dull surface skin cells to uncover your glowing, youthful skin beneath. Professional peels can be light with little downtime to deeper with some downtime and flaking. Here are tips to get the best from your professional Derma MD Corrector Peels. Make sure to pass them on to your client.
- After your peel don't touch your face. We all have the tendency to touch our face and after a peel the urge is more than ever since your skin can feel sunburned, hot, itchy, tight or dry. Our hands are covered with germs so touching your face will spread these germs and bacteria to your newly exfoliated skin with open empty pores. Touching your face can then cause breakouts. So make sure to educate your clients to be hands-free!
- Only use post care recovery items recommended by your service provider. Once your face has had the peel, it is very vulnerable. The creams and lotions that you have at home could carry bacteria or be too active or acidic for your freshly exfoliated face so stay clear for at least 48 hours. Post care for Derma MD Corrector Peels is Copper. It's a must as it heals and reduces redness. Give every client that has a peel one trial sized Copper as a take home to make sure that they don't use their usual skincare, which will likely cause problems and not deliver the best results from the peel.
- Always use sunscreen on the client as their last step before they leave your clinic. It is very important that post-peeled skin is covered with an SPF of 30 or higher whenever the client is exposed to the sun for at least two weeks following their service. Exfoliating skin is very susceptible to hyper-pigmentation so make sure to educate your customer as to the importance of sunscreen.... or staying out of the sun.
- If skin flakes or flairs up – don't pick it! Chemical peels are a supervised damaging of the skin's top layer to produce new improved skin cells, so it isn't out of the ordinary for some people to experience break outs, flair ups or flaking. No matter what, don't pick or touch. Touching on its own is bad as it spreads bacteria but picking it the ultimate NO NO. It can cause scaring and hyperpigmentation which can be hard to erase.
- Add hydration … and lots. Products to use post peel are pink silk, copper and soy moisturizer. Adding hydration during the 2 week recovery period really takes away the itch and dry feeling that so many people experience for a few days after a peel. I find that sometimes with an aggressive Corrector 35% or 50% the Copper isn't quite enough to make me feel calm. I love adding calming Pink Silk and if Copper isn't making me feel moist, Soy is my go to because of its extra richness. Also adding the Blue Bomb Mask post peel is a great way to add the much needed hydration.
Educating your client about these 5 points while you are doing the peel creates great conversation and also shows that you really care that they get the best results possible from their Derma MD Corrector Peel.
